Crops in Botswana grow slowly due to dryness and cold-weather, and this is a barrier to the accomplishment of a low carbon society based on bioenergy. However, the nation has an abundance of wild plants that can stand up to dryness and winter season cold. It also has big numbers of jatropha curcas trees, whose seeds have plentiful amounts of an oil considered to hold terrific guarantee as a biofuel. The objective of this task is to utilize these resources to develop Jatropha ranges that are resistant to dryness and winter and deal high efficiency, along with to develop approaches of cultivating these ranges. In this way, a biological approach will assist to accomplish a low carbon society.

Creating a bioenergy production model based upon the nation's own biological resources
A database of biological resource data connecting to jatropha curcas will be constructed and will be developed. Moreover, in this desert that undergoes winter, efforts will be made to establish a cultivation system that is flexible with respect to climate modification. The task will work to construct a sustainable bioenergy production design using plant hereditary resources that are native to Botswana.
